Dwindle

Our time runs short.  We are at the day and a half point.  We no longer count days; now we are counting hours.    It is so different this time.  Last time, it was just us going.  We packed our many many bags and headed out.

This time, it is still just us going.  We haven't packed as we wanted because our little helpers unpack the bags for us.  This time, we leave half our hearts behind; we have never been away from our girls this long.  This time, we pack much lighter.

The inescapable question is "Why?   Why adopt more children?   Don't you know children are expensive?"

We know children are expensive little life-altering bundles of joy (and also poop, as we have been constantly reminded).   The inescapable answer is that these children need families.  These orphans need someone to love them.  They need someone to look out for them and sing songs with them and read to them and to be invested in their lives.  So many of these children are languishing in the auspices of the orphanage and the institution.  How can we turn a blind eye to their plight?  We can not say "these children need families" and yet be unwilling to  serve in this way.  Empty platitudes are no comfort to empty tummies and empty arms.

The time is so short.

Every bit helps....

At a yard sale today a person had the picture of "Bowen" on display.  A little boy came up.  "What's wrong with that baby?" he asked.  "He was born without arms and legs" they replied.  "I want to help that baby" he said, and paid $20 for $5 item.

It is humbling and touching to hear stories like this.  It is humbling to see God's provision for us.  Every little bit helps.  This endeavor is to big for us to do by ourselves.

Getting Close

If you haven't checked out our other blog yet, we have a travel date.  We will be flying out May 18th.  We are still $9000 away from being fully funded.  Translated into bread sales we are 3000 loaves away.

Menu for April 1-14

The bread sales continue to go well.  At one point we ran out of bread bags.  This was interesting, because the bags come 100 to a box.  We were like "huh?  we've sold another hundred?"  :-)

Many people have donated above and beyond the price of bread for our adoption.  We are humbled by the outpouring of support we have received.

We need roughly $24,000 for the adoption and we are about at the halfway point.  We expect to travel in the next 5-7 weeks.  If you are interested in making a tax-deductible  donation, go here: http://reecesrainbow.org/?s=reynolds

We need help with distribution!  We need people to do bread signups with work, church, etc for bread delivery.  You know someone who needs delicious bread!   Email us at baking4bowen@gmail.com!

The selections of bread from April 1-April 14th will be:

  • Tomato Basil
  • Cinnamon Raisin

Menu for 3-17 to 3-31

The first two weeks of bread baking have been a good success!  We have baked and sold over 90 loaves of bread!

We have been greatly encouraged by the generosity of people reached this way.  Many people have donated above and beyond the price of bread for our adoption.  One woman gave us a new high chair as well as an adoption gift.  To all our supporters, we give a heartfelt "Thank you!"

The menu for the weeks of 3-17 to 3-31 is going to be:

  • Chocolate Chip Loaf
  • Spanakopita (Spinach, Onion, Garlic, and Feta) Loaf

Welcome to Baking 4 Bowen.  We are starting this venture to help us raise money for adopting this little guy:

http://reecesrainbow.org/?s=reynolds

The type of bread available for the first two weeks are:
  • Lemon Herb Loaf
  • Cheese and Pepper Loaf

The slots for delivery on 3/7, 3/8, and 3/11 are already full!  We sold out capacity before we even delivered our first shipment!

Space is still available to order bread for delivery on 3/14.  Loaves are $5 each (cash or check).

We are working on a sourdough recipe.  When it is finished (be patient :-) ) it will be available for sale.

If you want a particular type of bread, post ideas in the comments of the blog.  At some point I may have a vote for the next flavor-of-the-2week.

To order bread, send an email to baking4bowen@gmail.com.
